Why Rush?

Greeks make up only 3% of the US population, yet in both government and industry, a large percentage of the leaders have been Greek.

These statistics show that a majority of prominent figures in America are part of the Greek system, and it isn’t coincidence. Being apart of Fraternity life teaches you skills and creates the opportunities that will put you well infront of any other college graduate. Finally, some of the best times of your life will be here at Cal Poly. If you’re looking to take full advantage of your time at Cal Poly, then you may want to consider joining the Greek system. There are many benefits of being a part of Sigma Pi Fraternity, International:

Brotherhood

As one of the largest fraternities on campus, Sigma Pi takes great pride in having the tightest brotherhood on campus. Other fraternities will talk about their “brotherhood” but here at Sigma Pi it is evident throughout the entire membership. Standing as one of the nicest, largest fraternity houses on campus, our chapter house lives up to 30 members. Joining a fraternity makes campus smaller. You will meet many people and make many friends throughout the Greek and Cal Poly community. It’s a chance for you to establish yourself at Cal Poly and familiarize yourself with campus and college life.

Character Development / Leadership

There are over 30 leadership positions in Sigma Pi alone. You can be anything from President or Vice President, to the Philanthropy or Scholarship chairman. You get a chance to organize and lead a group of people and set the standards for those to come. It’s a good experience and a great resume builder. Taking up a leadership position can give you the necessary skills for the post-college world and a head up in your job field.  Sigma Pi Fraternity, International hosts multiple leadership conferences every year including Southern California Area Chapter Workshops, the Midyear Leadership Conference in St. Louis, Sigma Pi University in Nashville, TN and the Biennial Convocation.

Job Placement / Alumni Relations

Your Sigma Pi experience does not end when you leave college. You will find many business connections through alumni during college for internships and job placement after college. Sigma Pi alumni have played a crucial role with placing our new graduates in the job field the past few years. In addition, Sigma Pi brothers at Cal Poly have the opportunity to join the Eta-Delta Alumni Association. As an alumnus you share a bond with nearly 100,000 Sigma Pi men and have the opportunity to participate in local alumni clubs and receive Sigma Pi alumni benefits throughout the country.

Social

We are a social organization, so one of our greatest benefits is our social calendar. Throughout the year, Sigma Pi hosts functions with each of the sororities at Cal Poly. We host a variety of events including: theme parties at the chapter house, fall semi-formal, date parties, paintball trips, camping, a memorial break trip, big bro/little bro nights. Here’s a more in depth look at some of the social events we host: Date parties-  This is when new members and actives invite their dates, and our  chapter goes cosmic bowling, private vineyard tours, etc. Theme parties-  They included Highlighter, Beer Olympics, Catholic school boys and girls, a Toga party, and many others.  We also have sporadic social events during the quarter at our chapter house.

Athletics

We hold practices on a regular basis and compete primarily in football and soccer. Our house has many former high school and Cal Poly club athletes, as well as having stolen some varsity athletes away from their respective sports. If you are looking to contribute to a top-notch athletic house and sharpen your skills, at Sigma Pi you can do just that.

Scholarship

As the primary concern for Sigma Pi brothers, grades come first! Here at Sigma Pi we hold weekly quiet hours at the chapter house and weekly study hours at the library. The chapter house also maintains a current class file of old tests, quizzes and notes. Each new member and active brother must maintain a minimum GPA set each quarter to participate in chapter activities. There are many academic and leadership scholarship opportunities available through Sigma Pi Fraternity, International’s Education Foundation as well. Scholarships can range in size from $250.00 to over $5,000.00.

Altruistic Campus Experience

No other fraternity or sorority in North America completes a  project like this one.  The Altruistic Campus Experience is unlike any other program ever created.  Each year Sigma Pi chapters conduct an ACE Project on their campus in order to give back to their University.  Here at Sigma Pi, we believe in instilling pride and respect for one’s alma mater by directly performing philanthropic activities and giving back to the university or its faculty, staff, and administration.  With ACE, you can do just that.  Year in and year out, here at Cal Poly we strive to achieve this goal with our service and by joining Sigma Pi you can take part in this altruistic campus experience!
